We have spent a lot of time talking about apparitions, disembodied footsteps, and phantom whispers. These are usually tied back to a person who would have some reason to haunt a location after their time on the mortal coil has passed, but not every haunting is tied to the spirit of an individual from generations past.
Perhaps you have heard tales of paintings that have a “presence” beyond the paint on canvas? Or maybe the horrifying nightmares that started after someone brought home a beautiful trinket from the antique dealer? Do these objects have a life of their own, or might they be cursed? Haunts of Richmond presents Eerie PaddlesEver go out for an evening paddle in a kayak or canoe? The heat of the day has passed. The lingering rays of sunshine glinting off the calming waters. Maybe a gull or duck punctuating the quiet on their way to bed down for the night. It can truly be a time to catch your breath and enjoy what nature has to offer where the land meets the water. But then the minutes slip away, the sun is suddenly lower than you thought. You realize that you need to turn around now, as dark will truly set in at any moment. The placid waters are turning an inky black and your mind takes a dark turn, thinking about the stories of those that met an untimely end in these very waters. Did you just see something below the surface? A hand? A face? Your heart starts to race as you paddle faster, and the calm that you were enjoying just a few minutes ago is shattered. You’re determined to not have your name added to the haunted tales that are whispered about these waters….
