| Connecticut’s colonial settlements, maritime trade, Revolutionary history and rocky shoreline have produced a remarkably varied collection of ghost stories. This episode crosses the state through river towns, coastal landmarks, cemeteries and wooded ridges where local legends remain closely tied to the landscape.
The journey begins with the Griswold Inn in Essex and Captain Daniel Packer Inne in Mystic, two historic gathering places with stories of guests who never quite departed. It continues to Charles Island off Milford, Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park in Groton and New London Ledge Lighthouse. Union Cemetery in Easton, nearby Stepney Cemetery and the former Lighthouse Inn add apparitions and haunted-hotel traditions. The final stories move inland to the Black Dog of the Hanging Hills and the Wicked Witch of Monroe. Throughout the episode, documented history is separated from curses, sightings and later folklore. That distinction lets Connecticut’s real past remain visible while preserving the legends that generations have attached to its inns, battlefields, islands and trails. |
