Haunted Italy: Ghost Stories from Milan, Rome and Medieval Castles

| Italy’s haunted traditions draw on centuries of religious devotion, political power, artistic achievement and public spectacle. This episode moves from Milan’s churches and palaces to the monuments of Rome, then into medieval castles where tragic figures and family legends remain part of the local story.
The Milan section visits the Duomo, San Bernardino alle Ossa, Sforza Castle, the Devil’s Column, Teatro alla Scala, the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Piazza Vetra and Palazzo Carmagnola. In Rome, the route includes Piazza del Popolo, Ponte Sant’Angelo, the legend of Donna Olimpia, the Mouth of Truth and the Colosseum. The final portion turns to Montebello Castle and Azzurrina, Maniero della Rotta and Castello di Bardi. Phantom brides, restless performers, skeletal imagery and castle apparitions appear throughout, but the episode keeps folklore distinct from documented people and places. The result is an editorial journey through the history that gave Italy’s supernatural legends their lasting shape. |
