| The Arctic is not one place or one tradition. Its ghost stories cross national borders and include expedition accounts, industrial legends, community memory and older folklore shaped by the land and climate. This episode travels through Canada, Norway, Russia, Greenland and Sweden while also drawing on Inuit traditional stories.The Canadian segments include the Ghost That Followed the Dog Train and stories of zombies on King William Island. Tromso represents Norway, while Russia enters through the unfinished Transpolar Mainline and the modern legend surrounding the Kola Superdeep Borehole.
The qivittoq of Greenland and the Swedish myling bring older supernatural traditions into the program. These figures do not fit neatly into a modern ghost-hunting framework, so the episode is best understood as a mix of haunted history and regional folklore. |
