| America’s national parks preserve dramatic landscapes as well as the histories of the people who lived, worked and traveled through them. Volume 1 visits six parks where wilderness hazards, visitor experiences and older traditions have produced stories that continue to circulate around trails, lodges and campfires.
The western route includes Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Rocky Mountain national parks. Each has a different environment and history, from geothermal landscapes and mountain passes to historic hotels, search-and-rescue stories and the long presence of Indigenous communities. Everglades National Park and Indiana Dunes National Park expand the episode into the Southeast and Midwest. The program distinguishes documented events, witness reports and folklore while introducing a series designed to continue across the National Park Service system. |
