This episode follows five locations and collections of stories that connect the state’s family fortunes, prison history, urban growth and rural communities with later supernatural traditions.
Benton County provides a group of local ghost stories before the journey reaches Vaile Mansion in Independence. The Screaming House in Union brings a modern residential case into the program, while Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City carries the history of a major nineteenth-century prison. Lemp Mansion in St. Louis closes the episode with the rise and decline of a prominent brewing family and the legends associated with their home. The program keeps those documented histories visible while attributing apparitions, sounds and other unexplained events to witnesses and later folklore. |
