| The Great Lakes are inland seas whose beauty, weather and commercial importance have also produced a long record of shipwreck and loss. This episode explores maritime history and supernatural lore across waters shared by the United States and Canada.
The voyage begins with the disappearance of Le Griffon and the body known as Old Whitey aboard the wreck of SS Kamloops. It comes ashore for stories from Mackinac Island before returning to the losses of SS Edmund Fitzgerald, SS Bannockburn and Emperor. The final story concerns Hamilton and Scourge, armed American schooners that sank in Lake Ontario during the War of 1812 and are now protected as a National Historic Site of Canada. The episode treats the people lost in these disasters with care while separating documented wreck history from apparitions, legends and later paranormal interpretation. |
