| Greenock grew from a fishing community on the River Clyde into an important port and industrial town. Its civic center reflects that history: Greenock Town Hall dates to 1765, while the larger Municipal Buildings were constructed around it as the town expanded during the nineteenth century. This travel Short also stops at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Museum and Heritage Centre. Operated by volunteers of the Scottish Fire Brigades Heritage Trust, the museum occupies the old fire station within the Municipal Buildings and preserves historic appliances, equipment and stories from Scotland’s fire service. |
