| Underground spaces can feel disorienting even before stories of apparitions and unseen presences enter the picture. This episode descends into catacombs, military tunnels, burial sites, vaults and legendary passageways across Europe, Africa and the United States.
The route begins with the Odesa Catacombs in Ukraine and stories of tunnels beneath Savannah, Georgia. It continues to England’s Drakelow Tunnels and the underground passages in Portland, Oregon, often called the Shanghai Tunnels or Portland Underground. The final locations are the Paris Catacombs, the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, Egypt, and the Edinburgh Vaults in Scotland. These places served very different purposes, and some tunnel stories are better documented than others; the episode separates established site history from local legend and paranormal reports. |
