| Some haunted-doll stories center on a single object, while others grow around collections and landscapes filled with human figures. This first volume crosses several countries to compare famous paranormal claims, community art and places transformed by dolls.
The individual stories feature Letta, Okiku, Mandy, Annabelle and Robert the Doll. Each has acquired a public identity through ownership stories, museum display, film, television or repeated online retelling, but those traditions do not provide the same kind of evidence. The broader locations are Nagoro Scarecrow Village in Japan, created through Ayano Tsukimi’s life-size figures; Mexico’s Island of the Dolls; and Dolls Head Trail at Constitution Lakes Park in Atlanta. |
