| Seattle survived repeated economic booms and collapses, the Great Fire of 1889, earthquakes and major changes to its streets and waterfront. This episode looks at how that restless urban history became connected to stories in markets, schools, theaters, hotels and preserved Gold Rush buildings.
Pike Place Market opens the route, followed by the former Martha Washington School for Girls, now Martha Washington Park. The Harvard Exit Theatre and Re-Bar represent parts of the city’s changing arts and nightlife history, while Mayflower Park Hotel and the Arctic Club bring prominent hospitality and social buildings into the program. The Cadillac Hotel, home to the Klondike Gold Rush museum, and Seattle’s oldest ghost story complete the journey. The episode provides a city-focused companion to Haunted Washington State and keeps Seattle’s documented development separate from the later folklore attached to each site. |
