| South Dakota’s haunted lore stretches from the cultural centers of Sioux Falls and Yankton to the mining towns of the Black Hills. This episode visits seven historic places where apparitions, phantom voices, moving objects and long-running theater traditions have become part of the local story. The journey includes the Orpheum Theater Center and Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls, the Dakota Theatre and Mount Marty University in Yankton, South Dakota State University’s historic auditorium in Brookings, the Bullock Hotel in Deadwood and the Historic Homestake Opera House in Lead. Their legends introduce theater spirits Larry and Carmen, campus hauntings handed down by generations of students and the watchful presence associated with frontier sheriff Seth Bullock. Throughout the episode, documented events are separated from later folklore.
