| Texas is large enough to hold several distinct supernatural traditions, from haunted hotels and historic bars to ghost roads, bridge legends and borderland folklore. This episode begins in Houston, where some of the city’s oldest buildings and public institutions carry stories of former residents, workers and visitors.
The Houston route includes La Carafe in the former Kennedy Bakery, the Rice Hotel, the Old Spaghetti Warehouse building now occupied by McIntyre’s, and Houston Zoo, where stories center on its first zookeeper, Hans Nagel. The journey then moves east to Old Bragg Road and the Big Thicket Light before visiting The Grove in Jefferson. The final stories reach Catfish Plantation in Waxahachie, Old Alton Bridge near Denton, the legend of El Muerto and the Lechuza traditions of South Texas. By separating documented places and people from later witness accounts and folklore, the episode shows how Texas history produced many different kinds of haunted stories. |
