| Pirate legends thrive along the Atlantic coast, where shipwrecks, hidden treasure and violent maritime histories have long fed supernatural storytelling. This episode follows spectral sailors and pirate traditions from Charleston through New England’s islands, harbors and coastal towns.
The stories include pirate lore from Charleston, the burning ship of the Palatine legend off Block Island and the history and hauntings associated with Nix’s Mate in Boston Harbor. At the Isles of Shoals, the episode turns to Philip Babb and a vengeful phantom dory before examining the intertwined legends of Don Pedro and Ocean Born Mary in New Hampshire. The route ends at Jewell Island in Maine’s Casco Bay and with a spectral sailor said to have returned to Salem. Maritime records, family tradition and folklore do not always agree, so the episode treats these accounts as evolving legends while preserving the real coastal geography behind them. |
